Quick Divorce Options
The quickest possible divorce is an uncontested agreed divorce because the total time spent in court is usually less than an hour. You initially go to court to file the divorce forms and pay the filing fee which usually takes less than 10 minutes to do assuming that you didn't waste time preparing the forms yourself and instead paid somebody like us to do it for you. You will go to court once more just to attend the final hearing and get your divorce judgment signed by the judge. Your spouse doesn't even have to attend most of the time because he/or she signed the agreement to the divorce in the forms already.
Things that can slow you down or keep you from getting a quick divorce:
- You don't qualify for residency... which happens to people who recently moved and don't meet the required residency period. Every state has one and many range from 90 days to 180 days or more. Call you local county courthouse to find out what it is.
- Your spouse decides to contest the case... making it a long and expensive process.
- You and your spouse haven't been separated as required by law ( in some states).
Those are the most common scenarios where a quick divorce wouldn't be as quick. However, there may be other rare cases in which exceptions also may exist. If your divorce is uncontested, contact us and we can look at your case since we do offer the quickest possible method of divorce for uncontested cases. On the other hand, if your divorce is contested, consult with an attorney to see what the quickest possible option may be.
